The efreet, of course, return for yet another fight. With improved four against two odds, the griffin riders dispatch another of the original trio after a hard, drawn-out fight. The surviving efreeti decides discretion is the better part of valour and flies off, leaving the riders and their griffons to lick their wounds before flying back to Sayr Ulan.

One efreeti is dangerous. Three efreet are a fiery nightmare.
After a prolonged and spectacular aerial battle high over the slums of Sayr Ulan, the largest city in the Kingdom of Sind, three young griffon riders, their salty new acquaintance Torsten, and his temperamental griffon Skritch have only just managed to defeat one of three efreet chasing them. The two larger efreet are showing no signs of giving up in spite of the defeat of their smaller companion.

In 998 AC in Port Tenobar, western Darokin, three 15-year-old boys come into possession of three unusual griffon eggs. Each boy takes on the care and raising of one of the hatched sea griffons, and they name their little group “The Secret Circle”.
